hg体育官网The USC School of Pharmacy launched the nation’s first clinical pharmacy program in 1968 and has continued to pioneer experiential learning opportunities for Doctor of Pharmacy students ever since. Emphasis is given to the application of drug knowledge in patient care, with the pharmacist prepared to be an active and integral member of the health care team.
Opportunities to gain experience in patient care begin early, increasing in scope and complexity as students progress through the PharmD program. By the time they earn their degree, students will have completed at least 1,740 hours of hands-on experiential learning.
hg体育官网During each of the first three years of the program, students complete approximately 300 hours of experiential learning in community pharmacies, hospitals, and a variety of other practice settings such as community clinics and managed care organizations. The fourth year of the program is entirely experiential, with students completing six advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE) of six weeks each.
Students benefit from a broad network of affiliates with some 300 sites and more than 400 volunteer faculty and preceptors, many of whom are USC Pharmacy alumni. The USC School of Pharmacy is the only private pharmacy school on a major health sciences campus, putting students in close proximity to four major hospitals. The School also owns and operates community pharmacies.
